Effective eye exercises to slow down aging eyes

As we age, our eyes undergo changes that can lead to various vision problems. Regular eye exercises can help slow these age-related changes and improve overall eye comfort.

Here are 5 simple eye exercises to help mitigate age-related vision issues:

1. Figure 8. While seated, visualize a horizontal figure eight about 10 feet in front of you. Trace this shape with your eyes for 30 seconds, then switch directions. This exercise can help reduce the progression of nearsightedness (myopia).

2. The 20-20-20 rule. To combat digital eye strain, follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

3. Blinking exercise. Blinking exercises help to lubricate and strengthen your eyes. Close your eyes for a few seconds, then blink rapidly and lightly 15 times. If you feel any strain, slow down the blinking.

4. Focus shift. Sit comfortably and hold a finger a few inches from your eye. Focus on it, then slowly move it away while continuing to focus. Next, shift your focus to a distant object and then back to your finger. Repeat this process 3 times.

5. Clock face exercise. As a cooling-down exercise, imagine an analog clock in front of you. Move your eyes vertically from 6 o’clock to 12 o’clock and back, repeating 20 times. Then, move your eyes horizontally from 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock and back, also repeating 20 times.
